Plot

Frank, a down-and-out drifter, stops at an out-of-town diner. It's the depression era.

The diner is run by Nick, a swarthy Greek, and his beautiful, but frustrated wife Cora. Nick offers Frank a job, working as a mechanic in the attached garage.

Frank and Cora start a sexually explosive affair. Together they hatch a plan to murder Nick and keep the diner.

Why in 100 Best?

Brilliant acting from both Nicholson and Lange, with a simple but gripping storyline.
