Far And Away

Plot

It's Ireland, late 19th century. Joseph works for his father on a farm, which they rent from an unscrupulous landlord, Mr Christie. When Joseph's father joins a protest against Mr Christie, he is killed by the landlord's henchman.

Joseph marches over to Mr Christie's, seeking revenge, but he is is intercepted by the feisty landlord's daughter, Shannon, who stabs him with a pitchfork. Shannon takes pity on the wounded Joseph, and allows him to convalesce for a few days at the Manor house. As Joseph lays recovering, Shannon suggests a bold plan - to emigrate together to the United States and join the Oklamahoma Land Rush.

Why in 100 Best?

A truly grand and sweeping epic, with a sweet love-story between Joseph and Shannon (though some questions over the stars' Irish? accents).
